SEMI-ASSISTED LIVING HOME in SOUTHEAST DENVER, FOR THE ECOLOGICALLY CAREFUL --
-Organic, or mostly organic, natural food prepared for all meals, with special dietary needs and preferences incorporated. No microwaved food.
-No chemicals of any type used in the home in many years. No paint or construction materials outgassing. Hardwood floors upstairs, with older linoleum in bathrooms and older tile in kitchen. Tile floor in finished basement. Cleaning is with water (using special mops and clothes from Europe and Asia), and steam cleaning. Unscented detergent used for dishes, porcelain fixtures, and laundry. -NON-SMOKERS ONLY. No smoking by guests, even outside, closer than the public street (which is 20 feet from the house).
-No perfumes, scents, or scented products of any type are allowed to be on premises (either used by residents or by guests). No indoor plants due to possible allergies of residents.
-No chemicals of any type have been used in the yard for many years. Homeowner is on Pesticide Registry for notice of any commercial spraying of adjoining properties.
- No pets. (There has never been a cat in the house in 33 years, and there has been no dog for more than 25 years.)
- Filtered and/or oxygenated water will be available for drinking (although resident's choice of bottled water would be picked up and available if a particular resident wishes to pay the cost thereof). A chlorine filter is on the shower. Smoke alarms are the non-radioactive type recommended by John Ott and others.
- Ranch-style house built in 1957.
- Two bedrooms upstairs will be available to residents, as single-occupancy or shared room. Two bathrooms upstairs will be shared (one with a shower, one with a bathtub). Residents will share a living room area (not used by homeowner), and will share a large country kitchen (with meal preparation provided).
- Residents may enjoy sitting on a covered porch in front, shaded by trees in the summer. A back patio and backyard also are available.
- Located approximately 3/4-mile from two light rail stations along I-25 (at Yale and at Hampden). Buses (possibly needed by residents' visitors) are less than 1/2-mile to 3/4-mile.
-Ample parking on quiet, residential street in one of the lowest crime rate areas in Denver.
-Several health clubs and swimming pools are within 1/2 to 1-1/2 miles.
-Several movie theaters and more than 100 restaurants are within a 2-mile radius if of interest to residents, as well as numerous churches in all denominations.
-Services provided will include food preparation, pick up of prescriptions and supplements (Vitamin Cottage, Whole Foods, and Sunflower are within 2 miles or less), assistance with monitoring or administration of oral medication, housecleaning, and non-delicate laundry. One person will be on the premises at all times. Two fire stations are within l-1/2 miles. Fifteen minutes by car in non-emergency from Swedish, Porter, Rose, VA, and National Jewish Hospitals.
- All upstairs appliances are electric. Heat is natural gas forced air (with furnace in basement). Hot water heater (gas) is located in basement.
- Long-term homeowner will be remaining on the premises also, and will provide on-site supervision and monitoring of caregivers. Homeowner has had multiple allergies and extreme chemical sensitivites herself, and this property therefore has been maintained as safe as possible for several years.
- Of course, one need not have allergies or chemical sensitivities in order to prefer organic food and avoidance of chemical exposures. Any residents choosing this healthier lifestyle are welcome.
- Daily laughter sessions will be led by the homeowner (which promote health on many levels). Improv games to exercise brain function, and board game participation will be available. A qualified acupuncturist may be arranged to make house calls if sufficient request for such.
- Regretfully, residents needing personal physical assistance probably cannot be accommodated, beyond providing their own home health aides (i.e. if needing help bathing), if needing lifting or other physical assistance. Also, this property would not be suited to those with any major mental deterioration or illness.
